St Joseph’s provides a fully inclusive mainstream learning environment that recognises and reflects the principles of the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005). Our motto, “Love One Another” captures the essence of our school community and our inclusive education framework. Our commitment to the practices of purposeful inclusion reflects the Gospel values of respect, equality and social justice. Within a Christian framework, we provide a learning environment that is supportive and responsive to individual needs and differences and that recognises and celebrates the individual student’s abilities and strengths.
St Joseph’s is committed to providing quality teaching and learning experiences that supports the individual educational needs of all students. While the first level of provision is within whole class instructional and independent practice, we recognise the importance of a second tier of support that provides additional instruction and guided learning in small groups and one-on-one support.
Our school uses quality evidenced based intervention programs and practises that support the Science of Reading and a multisensory approach to learning.
Students who require adjustments made in any area are referred to the Learning Support Team. The team is led by a Learning Support Teacher and a School Psychologist.
Learning Support Assistants (LSA’s) are employed to work with students and teachers, and implement a number of support programs both in the classroom, playground and in break out rooms where appropriate. Our Learning Support Team are made up of dedicated and experienced professionals and paraprofessionals who strive to provide meaningful and inclusive learning for all. Our teachers support all students and are very experienced and capable educators. We are blessed to have an amazing and supportive team across our school.
