Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Week 10 and our modified version of our fortnightly newsletter!
I would like to congratulate your children for their learning gains and developing their future goals in their learning. I hope your parent teacher interviews have been a great opportunity to share the celebrations.
One whole school activity (including your help at home) is our Big Write in Years 1-6 and Big Talks in Kindergarten. We had a mysterious object “land” in our playground this week! Is it a meteorite, space rock, an asteroid….? Who knows but it certainly sparked the imagination of our children and their writing this week has reflected their enthusiasm to write!
Plus
Our PLUS (Pre-loved Uniform Shop) has had a major face lift thanks to Cheryl, Sarah and Chris (probably more behind the scenes) AND the volunteers who managed to iron these pre-loved garments. Thank you so much for taking the time to assist with this huge job! Many items are being sold for $5-$10 and a touch more for the jackets. If you need to purchase items we will supply you with opening times or you can contact our office and we will direct you to our wonderful volunteers to check stock. If you have any items at home your child no longer fits into, please send them in and they will be added to our racks.
Naidoc Week
Thank you to Mr Hession and our Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander children who led a beautiful NAIDOC week liturgy in our hall.
These children have also had the opportunity to participate in Walking Country at Styles Point plus broadcast their radio station on 99.9 FM for our afternoon carline listeners!
P&F Fundraising
Our P&F organised a wonderful Paint & Sip in our school hall this week. I would like to thank all who supported the evening. It’s great to see our school community connecting and bonding together in fun events such as these – Not to mention the amazing talent clearly on display!

Awards
Congratulations to our wonderful award recipients in Week 9. There are more and more children receiving awards therefore our assembly will need to commence at 2.15pm. A special congratulations to our Athletics carnival age champions receiving their awards also including Decklan (Senior boy), Mia (Senior girl), Caitlin (Junior girl) and Mason (Junior boy). Of course congratulations to Mia and her team of Macquarie House colour on their overall win at the carnival – great participation and sportspersonship by all. Well done!
Lakes Regional Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to our St Joseph’s representatives at the Lakes Regional Athletics carnival on Wednesday at Glendale. Throughout the day I heard all children cheering on their friends and participating with enthusiasm and most of all having lots of fun! Some children may also be invited to the Diocesan athletics carnival in August. You are ALL winners in my eyes, it’s a great achievement to represent your school and yourself at the Regional carnival – well done to you all. Thank you Mr York for being our team manager on the day!
Playground
Welcome our newest addition to our shade playground!
In our playground we now have:
• A swing
• The slides in the above photo
• A playground structure with climbing/upper body strength, rock wall, monkey bars, slides etc
• A creek bed with water activities and a bridge
• A place to play with natural materials
• A sensory walk
• Stepping pegs
• A boat ……….
• And a world of imagination and play!
The children also enjoy our field to play on. The field measures approx. 2 soccer fields with cricket nets, football posts etc. If the field is wet due to rain, we are able to use the netball/basketball courts!
It’s never a dull moment at St Joseph’s! It will be very quiet over the next two weeks without the children during the school holidays.
Please touch base with our St Nicholas OOSH for vacation care activities during the holidays.
I wish you all a very safe and happy holiday ready to return to us on Monday 18th July.
God bless,
Charlene Reid
Principal
Thank you to Mr Hession and all of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, who lead our NAIDOC Liturgy and events for the school last Tuesday. It was lovely to learn more about our local environment and add to our beautiful Biraban artwork. I felt very honoured to be allowed to add to this artwork! Another way of feeling part of our great community here at St Joseph’s. I know my Kinder students were also very excited and proud, as I am sure all new students were. The artwork is hung in the Hall and each year new students will add to it, as they have done in the past.
As NAIDOC Week (3rd-10th July) will occur in the holidays this year, here is a link to some events being held during NAIDOC week, which you may be able to attend with your family and friends
