Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy Easter
I would like to wish you all a very Happy Easter. Thank you for your ongoing support especially over this very busy Term 1! We plan to continue to present quality learning and fun activities for your children in the remainder of 2022 as long as we continue to stay safe and healthy.
Presentation from School Psychologist
Next term, our school psychologist, Alicia Gibson will be offering a parent session on 18 May at 5pm focusing on anxiety and resilience. More information from Alicia will be provided to you early next term. I encourage you to attend this session, as I am aware of all the stresses many families are living with during these challenging times.
Here are some of our super star award recipients and we had many children dressed in orange for our Harmony day celebrations!
ASSEMBLY PHOTOS included here from Week 11 – including swimming photos
St Joseph's Day Artworks
As noted in the last newsletter, the artworks from the St Joseph's Day artists are now displayed in the school foyer. I think you'll agree they look beautiful and have brightened up the area very much:
Easter Celebrations (early)
Our wonderfully creative children (and families) did not disappoint today at our Easter hat parade! There were chocolate eggs hanging from hats, chickens, lots of colours and most importantly a lot of excited children! Congratulations everyone - a great way to celebrate Easter together. I will put some photos on our school facebook page!
Easter falls during our holidays, therefore we have celebrated Holy Week a week early here at school with our short remembrance assemblies.
- Year 5/6 Maroon presented a remembrance liturgy for Good Friday, which was so well produced and reminded us of the solemnity of Good Friday. Some excellent acting, narration and costuming happened all week with our wonderful class presentations from Kindergarten representing Palm Sunday and 3/4 Blue representing Holy Thursday. Well done children!
- ANZAC day, 25 April - all are invited to attend the ANZAC March at Toronto - Mrs Fuller has prepared information slips with magnets for your fridge as a reminder. These were sent home earlier this week. See below for a copy.
-
Then we will celebrate Easter Sunday on Tuesday 26 April (first day back Term 2) - Year 5/6 Blue will be presenting their short remembrance on this day at 2pm.
-
We will have an ANZAC liturgy on Wednesday 27 April at school at 8.50am
Parents and carers are very welcome to attend the above!

A huge thank you to our canteen volunteers this term. Tracey does a great job in our canteen. However, she could not do it without you! If you would like to volunteer next term for one or two days, please contact me or Margaret in the office and we will arrange to have you registered as a volunteer! The more volunteers we have the less one person needs to do and your children will love seeing you in our new SJKB aprons working in the school canteen! There is even a coffee machine in there now for your pleasure!
I also would like to thank our wonderful staff who always give 110% of their time, their professionalism and their care and kindness at SJKB! We have an amazing team to work with your amazing children!
God bless and please enjoy your holidays!

Happy HOLY-days!!!
Holy Week, the most important week in our Church’s year, begins on Sunday with Palm Sunday, marking Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. This year, Holy Week occurs during term break between Sunday 10th April and Saturday 16th April. Through this week, we celebrate the Easter Triduum: Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil.
This week, at morning assembly, we have had short remembrances for Holy Week -
Kinder re-enacted Palm Sunday, 3/4 Blue recognised Holy Thursday and 5/6 Maroon helped us to acknowledge Good Friday. All classes did a fantastic job! From those who spoke and acted, to those who watched respectfully and engaged in the remembrance. Thank you for understanding the importance of Holy Week!!
5/6 Blue will help us to celebrate Easter Sunday, the most joyous event in the Christian calendar, after the holidays - see your Compass daily calendar for more detail.
Easter, the scholars tell us, is the oldest feast in the history of Christianity, but it really only came into focus as a distinct celebration in the late second century.
"The truth is that Easter and the Resurrection, has been celebrated in the church every Sunday since the first week after the resurrection itself.” – Joan Chittister, The Liturgical Year
ANZAC Day
On Monday 25th April, St Joseph’s students are invited to join the Toronto ANZAC Day service march. Students are asked to dress in school uniform and walk in the march to honour and remember those men and women who have died fighting for peace in our world.
Earlier in the week, a fridge magnet note went home with details about the march and a copy can be seen in Mrs Reid's article earlier in this newsletter.
Mrs Fuller and I will meet you at 10:40am at Toronto Diggers Club, students will join the march through Toronto Boulevard to the ANZAC Day service in Goffet Park.
As a school community, we will gather on 27th April for our own ANZAC Day remembrance liturgy at school. Parents, carers and families are welcome to join us under the COLA at 8.50am for our ANZAC Day service.
Diary Dates for the beginning of Term 2:
- 27th April: School ANZAC Day Service during morning assembly under the COLA
- 6th May: Mother’s Day Liturgy and breakfast before school – More information to come at the start of Term 2
- 23rd May: Catholic Schools Week
Wishing you and all of your family a safe and blessed term break!

Welcome to 2022 in St Joseph’s Library.
We have begun another great year of reading, researching and exploring some fantastic technology. Students have been learning about Cybersafety and how to stay safe on the Internet.
St Joseph’s has a wonderful collection of books that we encourage all students to borrow. They are currently enjoying our collection of Star Wars books, Graphic novels and Premier’s Reading Challenge books.
All students need a library bag to borrow from our Library. This helps protect our lovely books.
School Library bags are available for $14 for anyone who needs one. Kinder students do not have to buy a bag, as the school will provide them one as part of their kinder acceptance fee. Please pay on Qkr! and the bag will be delivered to your child.
This year class borrowing days are:
Monday: Year 1, 2 Blue, 3 Maroon, 4 Maroon and 3/4 Blue,
Tuesday: Kinder, and 5/6 classes
We encourage all students to borrow from our library, as we have an amazing collection of fabulous books.
Premier's Reading challenge
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge, also known as PRC is well underway
The PRC is an initiative by the NSW Government that encourages a love of reading in students from Kinder to Year 9. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read widely and enjoy reading. Students are each given an individual username and password to log onto the PRC website. There they can add the PRC books they have read to their reading record. Students who complete the challenge will have their names displayed in the library and the newsletter. At the end of the year they will receive a certificate to show their achievement. At St Joey’s we like to celebrate with a Pizza Party in term four.
The PRC Website can be found here:
The challenge continues until 19th August, so students have 6 months to complete it. If your child has entered the PRC in previous years their username and password will be the same. If you would like your child to participate in this wonderful event please let me know and I can send their login details home.
This fortnight during Library lessons, students have read the following PRC books:
Kinder - the Wrong Book by Nick Bland
Congratulations to the following students who have finished the PRC:
Kinder: Ethan H and Charlie W
Year 1: Maggie H
Year 2: Xavier Q
Year 4: Eve B, Xavier S
Year 6: Ava D, Mae R, Ethan S, Ryan S and Roland P

Scholastic Book Club
At St Joseph’s we participate in Scholastic Book Club. This provides families with an easy way to encourage your children to read. Twice each term students will bring home a catalogue of affordable and fun books that you may purchase. All money spent through Book Club benefits the school, as a percentage of money raised is given back to the school as reward points for the Library to purchase fantastic resources. ORDERS DUE NO LATER THAN 30 MARCH THANK YOU.
Happy reading,

We have a number of students who have life threatening anaphylactic allergic reactions to all nuts and eggs. We would like to encourage families NOT to send these food items to school with their children or to ask their children to tell their teacher if they have brought them, so that they can be eaten away from affected children. We also encourage children NOT to share food at school.
